Urban Thinkers Campus- India held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi from 5th- 8th October 2015
As a lead Partner of the World Urban Campaign, National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) organized the Urban Thinkers Campus- India as a four day intensive workshop from 5th- 8thOctober 2015. The focal theme: “The city we need fosters inclusive prosperity” was in accordance with the Hon’ble Prime minister ‘s vision for ‘Sabkasaath, SabkaVikas’ and the emerging global discourse on prosperity of cities.
The event was designed in consultation with UNGCN India, Cities Alliance, DFID, Bernard van Leer Foundation, Asian Development Bank, Research councils UK, WEIGO, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Swiss Agency for Development & Cooperation and India Habitat Center.
An Urban Lab session was organized by BvLF on Prosperous Communities: Children and Youth in the event, which connected to the Habitat’s agenda of inclusive cities that acknowledge children and youth as a core stakeholder. The session discussed the successful examples of youth and child development programmes from various progressive cities.
One of the key recommendations of the event was focussed on the prosperous cities of future where Youth and Children are secure and empowered, which would need them to:
•Be Identified and recognized as stakeholders
•Be Aware of their rights and duties
•Have increased effective accessibility to basic amenities
•Have opportunities for personal development
•Have all their vulnerabilities addressed
Following the Urban Thinkers Campus, New Delhi, organized by NIUA, proceedings from Urban Lab 5: Prosperous Communities: Children and Youth, were shared with World Vision International (WVI) for presentation at the Children and Youth Constituent Group (CYPCG) in the General Assembly of Partners (GAP) in New York under WVI's engagement as co-chair of CYPCG in GAP, the primary mechanism for stakeholder engagement in Habitat III.
